Teaching for Learning Framework An element of the Teaching for Learning Suite | | Developing a positive teaching and learning ethos What is the Teaching for Learning Framework?A practical guide for schools outlining the conditions and processes needed to enhance the quality of teaching and learning and containing detailed guidance and descriptors for schools to use.Whilst many schools may have developed a teaching and learning policy against which they carry out observations and provide feedback to teachers; many schools find there is still insufficient impact on the most critical outcome: the learning.The Teaching for Learning Framework focuses on outcomes by ensuring all colleagues in an organisation ask: 'How is what I am doing going to IMPACT on learning?'It also provides schools with complete and detailed descriptors and indicators alongside other useful guidance and audio documents. Descriptors are fuly compliant with the latest 2009 Ofsted framework and the TDA Standards for Teachers. They also take in to account other considerations such as PLTs, AfL, BfL and Pupil Voice.There are two main sections:1) The Impact ManualThis outlines the context and principles for securing and developing effective teaching for learning; places the development of teaching and learning in the context of Continuing Professional Development and helps strengthen the accountability of schools for standards of achievement. It offers clear protocols for observation and pointers for high quality feedback, ensuring the schools' processes and systems are firmly focused on improving the quality of learning for learners.2) The Practical ToolkitDetailed descriptors and indicators that help identify strengths, areas for development and, if required, make overall judgements;Evidence gathering sheets for use in the learning session;Other useful tools to facilitate self-review and evidence gathering;
All the sheets may be copied for use in the school you are also given access to editable versions of all the tools so that you can make alterations if you wish.The Framework will benefit you by:Establishing a shared understanding about the importance of focusing upon impact and outcome - putting teaching for learning at the forefrontIncreasing the knowledge, skills and understanding of all staffEstablishing a shared vocabulary about teaching for learningIdentifying further areas for training, CPD and support these in-houseSaving time and money by developing quality systems which, if used with other tools from the suite, efficiently to "fit to context"
